Sporting Activities in the Cevennnes
Interested in sporting activities in the Cevennes? The beautiful area around Mas de la Baillyde is a perfect playground for outdoor sport-lovers!
The municipal tennis court in Potelières, the local village, is 800m away and accessible for free for our guests.
Onsite you can enjoy badminton, volleyball, boules, and of course the lovely swimming pool. The garden is also big enough for frisbee, football, croquet or whatever else takes your fancy. If you ask nicely we’ll lend you our equipment!
The undulating landscape and sunny weather is great for cycling and there are plenty of back roads where you’ll rarely cross a car. If you’re looking for a challenge the Mont Bouquet is rated as the one of the steepest slopes in the region!
Have a look at Richard’s Strava feed for some ideas for local cycle rides, he’ll be more than happy to share some tips and his favourite local routes for road cycling, gravel tracks or off-road montain biking. If it’s not too hot he might even come with you if you like!
If walking’s more your cup of tea then you’ll find wonderful circuits not far away…from a brisk after-lunch stroll to a whole day out there’s something for everyone. One of our favourite spots is the Defilé d’Argensol, a delightful green haven of peace which is a perfect place to relax as you wander along a gentle track by a clear blue stream. Just 5 minutes drive away from Mas de la Baillyde, you can also reach it by bike but be warned, the return trip back to the gîtes is uphill and you’ll need big tryres to explore it!
Why not try horse riding while you’re here, we have some good horse riding centres to recommend.
Canoeing is always a big hit with families, luckily from the Mas de la Baillyde you have the choice of a gentle paddle on the nearby Ceze, or a more demanding trip down the Ardecehe gorges, with or without a guide (but always with a shuttle bus to bring you back to the starting point). Various routes are available for all ages.
If you’re looking for excitement, get your adrenaline kick with any of the following activities that we’ve tested in the local area:
- There are two high ropes courses nearby which we can recommend
- Paragliding – the slopes of the Mont Bouquet give an amazing vantage point across the region, even as far as the mediterrannean sea!
- Caving – Some incredible caves are located in the surrounding area which offer beautiful guided tours, several offer more intense caving sessions with a guide as well!
- Rock climbing and canyoning – lots of great spots in the surrounding area (the closest is a 5 minute drive away)
All in all, the area around Mas de la Baillyde is a true playground full of great options for sporting activities in the Cevennes!
